A 5 consistent day Montessori program combining 5 year old Kindergarten children with 4 year olds who are developmentally ready for a more structured academic curriculum. Our Sr. Kindergarten is a State of Maine approved Kindergarten program, meeting all Department of Education regulations including a Maine State K-8 Certified Teacher. This program includes a strong literacy focus including whole group literacy circles, reading and writing times.

Jr./Sr. Kindergarten

Schedule

 

Offers 5 morning (8:30 – 12:15) or 5 extended days (8:30 – 3:30). 2 or 3 day extended days along with 5 mornings may be an option.

 

Ages

Eligible for Sr. K: 5 prior to Oct. 15th of school yr. Eligible for Jr. K.: 4 prior to Oct. 15th of school yr. A four or five year old and occasionally a six year old may be placed in this program. Our Kindergarten program is approved by the state of Maine and Sr. Kindergarten children can successfully progress to first grade if age eligible & developmentally ready.

 

Class Size

Maximum 24 children in the morning dropping to 20 in the afternoon.

 

Ratio

Approximate 8-10:1 ratio with 3 teachers depending on exact enrollment.

 

Classroom, Circle Time & Curriculum

The academic structure of Kindergarten includes longer and more structured whole group lessons such as daily literacy circle, shared reading, class writing/ journaling time, whole group lessons as well as small group lessons and 1:1 teacher time. The consistent 5 day schedule allows children the opportunity to explore advanced variations and extensions of the Montessori apparatus, and deeper exploration of science & cultural units.
